I have known Annette and have sung with her in Operas around 40 years ago. A delightful and gifted person. At my last reading, she told me about her book. I usually do not read bios. Reading and reviewing the books from my friends at the Shameless Self Promotions forum here as well as the 40 authors I follow keeps me pretty busy with the thriller genre I love to read.
But I also am a student of the metaphysical - My early influences were Edgar Cayce, and Arthur Ford, now Kathleen Tucci -
So when made aware of this biography beautifully written by James N. Frey, I started reading the book when I received it and continued for about 80 pages. That is always a sign to me it's a winner of a book.

I am ashamed to say I'd not seen any of Ms. Martin's works, although have seen Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State, and the others on A&E and the Biography Channel and Discovery Channel. Perhaps some of the programs I have seen have had her cases - will be on the lookout from now on! I see she has been on also on Court TV and Nancy Grace.
Annette Martin knew she had a special gift - she always surrounded herself with the White Light of God when she slept. Her psychic abilities blossomed when she met her Spirit Guide - Cama -

She married and moved all over the world, and in those places, she helped people - as well as working with the FBI, police and others to help solve crimes, give details, and locate missing people (some dead).
Ms. Martin sometimes channels Edgar Cayce, whom I mentioned was a big influence of mine. She has worked with physicians to help pinpoint hard to find illnesses and she has also been tested under controlled circumstances.
She also is an accomplished opera singer and has sung all over the world.

What a bunch of talents combined in a petite pretty lady!

Mr. Frey chronicles Ms. Martin's life and influences and we feel a knowledge of a truly gifted lady who knows the tremendous importance of encompassing yourself in the pure White Light of God.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE

A great book about a great Lady which proves to me that it is never too late. At age 62 after a reading with a psychic. I was told I had the gift of white light and should use it. I don't usually like biographies. This book is an exception. James Frey (author of the "How to Write a Damn Good Novel" books) knows well how to write. Here he crafts a work as exciting and as much a page-turner as any mystery. Once started, I couldn't put it down. There are tales of ghosts and murders and adventures galore. Annette has lived in Hong Kong and Mexico, met famous stars, hosted radio shows, and had leading roles in musicals. Frey skillfully weaves together all these threads to create a rich tapestry of her life. By the finish, the reader has a real feel for Annette's sunny, generous personality, her many gifts, and her love of family. I found it gripping to the end. Nor is her story exaggerated. Having worked with Annette Martin in the past, he doesn't tell the half of her accomplishments or say much about the unheralded work that she does (often for free) to help others.

Even if you don't normally like nonfiction or biographies, I highly recommend this book. It's a real page-turner.

I am now halfway through "Gift of the White Light" - it is a compelling book, with author James Frey writing in a spare, direct manner about the life of Annette Martin. Annette is clearly a gifted psychic and it is fascinating to read how her life unfolds within the context of this gift. She has used her abilities to help countless people, and Frey discusses her considerable accomplishments in a straightforward and engaging way. I can't wait to finish it, and even at this midpoint, am planning on purchasing it as a gift for family and friends.

My copy of The Gift of the White Light arrived and I took it out of its mailer thinking I'd just look through it. An hour later I came to (Frey put me into my own little trance) and I realized I couldn't put this book down. It's a fascinating story, told in a relaxed, conversational way, as if a friend were relating an amazing experience to me.
I'd love to believe in psychic abilities but no one has ever convinced me they're anything but fantasy. Annette's story as told by James Frey is making a believer of me. I feel as if I know Ms. Martin -- she comes alive on the pages to me. What a gift to the reader this book is!

What is unique about his book is that it is written by a writer who starts out as a true skeptic. James N. Frey doesn't pretend to have all the answers to the little understood gift of intuition or psychic mediumship, but he does render the bio in a way that lets the reader form their own opinion. His personal experiences with Annette are a standout, especially the story of his stepmother. Annette Martin is presented as a person, not an above-it-all guru who knows more than "us", and she is as honest about the personal costs of being psychic as she is steadfast about her goal of service.

I have known Annette Martin for over 20 years and have wittnessed her powerful psychic abilities. I was honestly skeptical if James Frey could really capture the magic of her life, and abilities with accuracy without making the book into a new agey, woo-woo read. He certainly succeeded on all counts. Gift of the White Light is a true, unembellished and totally engaging biography of an amazing psychic. But, Frey did more than write a great biography, he wrote a page-turner. I am reminded of the style of the late James Mitchener's historical novels that informed as well as entertained. Gift of the White Light captures the amazing true-life adventures of one of the nation's most renouned psychics. Nothing is left out, all the stories are there, from famous astronaut boyfriend to the faeries in Ireland and more. The next best thing to reading the book is getting a reading from Annette.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book. Annette Martin is obviously a gifted psychic and the book documents numerous, fascinating examples of her work. The book takes the reader through Annette's other interesting adventures including travel and her singing career. This book is a must-read! Ms. Martin, thank you for sharing your story.

I found her book quite by accident and once I realized that this was a Psychic's accountability of her gift I could not put it down. I read the book straight through. It captivated me. I scheduled a reading with Annette and today I had that reading. For over 25 years I have had readings with psychics, both famous and not. She was 100% accurate in her reading with me and she is such a joy to listen to. I have had readings with "famous psychics" who charged small fortunes and were rude and not even in her league when it comes to ratings or accuracy. I would tell you that purchasing her book would be a great gift to bestow on yourself, not to mention friends, family, book clubs, etc. She is as genuine on the phone as she is her book. It's as if you were talking to your best friend who knows absolutely everything you have ever done or shared with them.

Thanks Annette for showing me the "light" and encouraging me to believe that small changes can make huge differences.

Annette Martin is amazing. I have read numerous books about other famous psychics but this one I could not put down until I finished it.

Coming from a police family background I was amazed at Annette's accuracy in helping to solve specific crimes.

She seems to have an amazing talent and giving spirit. I'm glad the book was written by a skeptic.....it makes the book even more credible.

I found Annette's book incredible - she has a colorful cloth in her soul and behind her! Her book helped me to deal with the tradgedy of my sister's death! I sent it on to other family and friends with no reservations as I trust and Believe in her abilities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If only all humans could measure up to her capcity!

My opinion is that the read was excellent and touching, delving into the life of Annette Martin. She is a true survivor and inspires individuals to embrace their gift (even though some may not accept it for a while and eventually come to terms with it) and learn to deal with both the positive and not so positive aspects in our lives. Annette's book is a fun read where you could curl up in a blanket sipping hot tea and revel at her life's journey with awe. I could relate to some degree of the situations she experienced, and I am in no way saying I'm at her level, however she gives enlightenment, encouragement and strategies to handle the spirit realm with more confidence, and in her book it does just that. My son, Robert, who is 11 years old has spoken with her and truly believes in her abilites and her personable skills she demonstrates to the people she knows. My son refers to her as "The Professional". My son enjoyed her book too, he was able to get an autographed copy of her book.

I don't usually like biographies. This book is an exception. James Frey 'author of the 'How to Write a Damn Good Novel' books' knows well how to write. Here he crafts a work as exciting and as much a page-turner as any mystery. Once started, I couldn't put it down. There are tales of ghosts and murders and adventures galore. Annette has lived in Hong Kong and Mexico, met famous stars, hosted radio shows, and had leading roles in musicals. Frey skillfully weaves together all these threads to create a rich tapestry of her life. By the finish, the reader has a real feel for Annette's sunny, generous personality, her many gifts, and her love of family. I found it gripping to the end. Nor is her story exaggerated. Having worked with Annette Martin in the past, he doesn't tell the half of her accomplishments or say much about the unheralded work that she does 'often for free' to help others. Even if you don't normally like nonfiction or biographies, I highly recommend this book. It's a real page-turner.

This is a tale that tells itself. The book is both fascinating and compelling - a real page turner! What a pleasure and a privilege to be given a window into this great lady's life. You can satisfy your own intellectual curiosity by reading this book at home, on an airplane or while on vacation, or what a wonderful way to address your gift giving concerns birthdays, holidays, etc. Annette has been a guest on my podcast `A Mental Health Moment' and she is every bit as intelligent and charming as she appears in the book. All in all this book is not to be missed!

Posted April 12, 2008, 5:25 PM EST: An absorbing read. Skeptical at first, I bought the book because I'd read the writer, James N. Frey's Edgar nominated mystery. Presented in a compelling way and with facts to back it up we learn how Annette Martin's experience over 36 years helped so many. How her intuition and gift of the white light has transformed not only her life but impacted others. She was even the first psychic detective sworn in as an expert witness in a court of law for a murder case. Read it!

What a life story! And what a responsibility! Annette gives both her best and it's just a joy to read about her. She also keeps it real -- the mark in my book of someone who really does have a gift and uses it in service to others. Thank you on so many levels Annette.
